Roundabouts

 

Priority

 

- Before entering normally give way to right (See signs and road markings)

- Watch out for traffic lights on roundabouts

 

Procedures

 

GOING LEFT:

Indicate left on approach

Approach in left-hand lane

Keep to lane on roundabout

Maintain left turn signal through roundabout

Check nearside mirror before turning

Look into turn for obstacles

Once turned cancel signal

 

GOING AHEAD:

No initial signal required

Approach in left-hand lane

Check mirrors especially nearside before turning

Indicate left once passed exit before intended exit

Look into turn for obstacles

Once turned cancel signal

 

GOING RIGHT OR FULL CIRCLE:

Indicate right on approach

Approach in right-hand lane

Keep to lane and maintain signal

Check mirrors especially nearside before turning

Indicate left once passed exit before intended exit

Look into turn for obstacles

Once turned cancel signal

 

WATCH OUT FOR:

1. Pedestrians and zebra crossings on entrances/exits

2. Cyclists and horse riders (they keep to outside even if going right)

3. Long vehicles (May take different course due to length)

4. Mini-roundabouts. Treat as above and drive around unless unable to.
